Debs Suits in Ireland — The Complete Guide for 2026
Share
The debs is the one night most lads actually want to look sharp for — and the photos last a lot longer than the night does. This is our straight guide to picking a debs suit in Ireland: when to start looking, whether to buy or hire, what colours actually work, and what it costs. We're Ryle Menswear on Ashe Street in Tralee, and we've been kitting out Kerry lads for their debs for decades.
This season's debs offer
Buy any debs suit with us and we'll throw in the shirt and tie free. Come in, get measured, and walk out with the whole look sorted in one visit.

When should you start looking for a debs suit?
Earlier than most lads think. Debs season runs from September through October, and the best time to come in is August — while the full range is still on the rails and there's time for alterations without any panic. Leave it to the fortnight before and you're choosing from what's left in your size, not from what suits you best.
If you're going made-to-measure, come in even earlier — that takes 4–6 weeks to make.
Buy or hire your debs suit?
Both are fine. It comes down to one question: will you wear it again?
- Buy if you've a wedding, an interview or a 21st coming up. A suit you own gets worn for years, and with the shirt and tie included this season it's better value than it looks. Three-piece debs suits start at €269.
- Hire if it's a one-night thing, or if you want something bolder than you'd wear again — a velvet dinner jacket, a strong colour. Debs suit hire starts at €150.
Not sure? Come in and try both. We'll tell you honestly which makes more sense for you — we'd rather you got it right than spent more.
What colour debs suit should you go for?
There's no wrong answer, but there is a difference between standing out well and standing out badly.
- Navy or black — the safe classics. Sharp in photos, and you'll wear a navy suit again.
- Light stone, cream or linen — a standout choice for an early-autumn debs. Lighter shades photograph beautifully in daylight and look far less predictable than another black suit.
- Deep green, burgundy, midnight blue — the sweet spot right now. Different enough to be remembered, still smart.
- Bold and bright — if it's your personality, own it. A strong colour photographs brilliantly, and this is the one night you can. Just make sure the fit is spot on, because a loud suit that doesn't fit reads as fancy dress.
- Velvet or a patterned dinner jacket — a great shout for lads who want something with a bit of theatre to it.

The bit that actually matters: fit
A €900 suit that doesn't fit looks worse than a €269 one that does. Get these right and everything else follows:
- Shoulders — the seam should sit where your shoulder ends. This is the one thing that can't be altered easily, so it decides the suit.
- Jacket length — should cover your backside, roughly to the knuckles of your closed hand.
- Sleeve — about a centimetre of shirt cuff showing.
- Trousers — a slight break on the shoe, no bunching.
We measure and fit in-store, and alterations are part of the service. That's the whole reason to come in rather than order blind online.
What to wear with your debs suit
The suit is only part of it. A white or pale shirt is the safe classic; a tie or dickie bow depending on how formal you're going. Black shoes with a black or navy suit, brown or tan with green, stone and lighter shades — our guide to shoes with a suit goes through it properly. A pocket square is the cheapest way to look like you thought about it.

And if you're matching with a date or a group, bring them in with you — we'll coordinate colours so the photos work together.
